An adventure at the breakfast table

Turn a sheet of paper and a few minutes together into a character adventure.

    Make a tiny map

Put a sheet of paper beside the breakfast table. Draw three places: a starting point, a surprising stop and a finish. These could be a cereal mountain, a spoon bridge and a cosy house. Let your child choose a Kiddo character to take along. There is no right map; a few lines are enough.

    Tell the story together

Take turns adding one sentence. Ask what the character sees, who they meet and how they cross the bridge. A grown-up can write the sentences while the child draws. Keep food in its bowl and use drawings or paper pieces for the game.

    Give it an ending

Finish by choosing a name for the adventure and drawing its final scene. Fold the page into a little book, or save it for another morning. Five minutes can be plenty: the story belongs to your family, so stop when everyone is ready.
