A recipe morning, one job at a time
A practical plan for cooking together without giving everyone the same task.

Read before you cook
Pick one recipe and read it to the end before opening ingredients. Check what equipment it needs and which steps involve heat or sharp tools. An adult should manage those steps. Clear a space for simpler jobs such as counting spoonfuls, arranging bowls or mixing prepared ingredients.
Give each person a turn
Decide who will measure, who will stir and who will set the table. Explain one step at a time instead of handing over the whole recipe at once. If two children want the same job, divide it into turns or let one read the next instruction while the other works.
Keep a family recipe note
After serving, write down the name of the dish, the tasks everyone enjoyed and any changes you made. A small drawing can help children recognize it next time. Clean up together, then use the note to choose what to repeat on your next recipe morning.
